The story
This entry is about Naran as an overnight base, not the whole Balakot-to-pass corridor (that story lives on the Kaghan Valley page). I'd arrive, claim a room near the jeep stands, and plan Saiful Muluk for the next early morning. When Babusar is open, town becomes the staging area for the high crossing; when it is not, you still have lake light and lake-side walks.
Peak summer weekends are crowded enough to feel theatrical. Shoulder seasons trade quieter streets for fewer open hotels, which is usually the bargain I prefer.

Bazaar restaurants lean tourist-menu in summer. I'd keep meals simple and save enthusiasm for the lake morning.
